Zwei Rolex von Paul Newman werden versteigert
In New York werden demnächst zwei Rolex-Uhren der verstorbenen US-Schauspiel-Legende Paul Newman versteigert. Wie das Auktionshaus Sotheby's am Dienstag (Ortszeit) bekannt gab, wird der Wert jeder der beiden Rolex Daytona auf rund eine Million Dollar geschätzt.
Selbst ein solch hoher Preis würde aber weit hinter dem Preis zurückbleiben, den eine andere Rolex Daytona von Paul Newman im Oktober 2017 erzielt hatte: Damals war das Stück bei einer Versteigerung binnen Minuten für 17,8 Millionen Dollar unter den Hammer gekommen.
Das Auktionshaus Sotheby's hatte Ende Februar angekündigt, dass im Juni rund 300 Objekte des berühmten Hollywood-Paares Joanne Woodward und Paul Newman versteigert würden. Beide waren ab 1958 und bis zum Tod Newmans im Jahr 2008 im Alter von 83 Jahren verheiratet.
Eine der Rolex-Uhren, die nun versteigert wird, hatte Newman von Woodward zum bekannten Autorennen von Daytona Beach in Florida geschenkt bekommen. Die Uhr mit einem Lederarmband trägt die Schrift in Großbuchstaben eingraviert: "Fahr' sehr langsam", gezeichnet "Joanne". Die andere Uhr - ähnlich, aber mit einem Metallarmband - hatte der begeisterte Rennfahrer Newman 1995 zum Sieg seines Teams in Daytona geschenkt bekommen.
