Die millionenschwere Zusammenarbeit des Streamingdienstes Spotify mit dem britische Prinz Harry und seiner Ehefrau Meghan Markle ist vorzeitig zu Ende: Die von Harry und Meghan gegründete Produktionsfirma Archewell Audio und Spotify teilten am Donnerstag mit, dass sie fortan getrennte Wege gingen. Gründe wurden nicht genannt. Nach Informationen der US-Fachzeitschrift "Variety" soll Spotify ein höheres Produktionsvolumen von Archewell erwartet haben.
Beide Seiten zeigten sich in der Erklärung "stolz" auf die gemeinsame Podcast-Serie "Archteypes", in der Markle mit einflussreichen Frauen wie etwa dem Tennisstar Serena Williams und der Sängerin Mariah Carey diskutiert hatte.
Für "Archetypes" hatte Spotify im Jahr 2020 laut Medienberichten einen Auftrag im Volumen von 20 Millionen Dollar (nach heutigem Wert etwa 18,2 Millionen Euro) erteilt. Nun bleibt es jedoch bei einer einzigen Podcast-Serie, die Archewell für den Streaminggiganten produzierte. Laut "Variety" suchen Prinz Harry und Markle nach einem neuen Abnehmer für ihre Produktionen.
Prinz Harry und seine Frau hatten sich im Jahr 2020 von ihren royalen Pflichten im britischen Königshaus zurückgezogen, um ein unabhängigeres Leben im US-Bundesstaat Kalifornien zu führen. Als Einnahmequellen setzen sie dabei auf Medienproduktionen und Veröffentlichungen.
Der Prinz und seine Frau sorgten unter anderem mit einer Netflix-Doku-Serie, einem Auftritt bei US-Talkshowkönigin Oprah Winfrey und mit Harrys Memoiren für viel Aufmerksamkeit, vor allem wegen ihrer heftigen Kritik an der königlichen Verwandtschaft.
