Der US-Rapper Travis Scott wird wegen einer tödlichen Massenpanik bei einem Festival im Bundesstaat Texas nicht strafrechtlich belangt. Es werde keine Strafverfolgung in Betracht gezogen, teilte das Büro der Staatsanwältin im Bezirk Harris, Kim Ogg, am Donnerstag mit. Durch die Massenpanik während des Festivals Astroworld in Texas, das Scott im November 2021 mit organisiert hatte, waren zehn Menschen gestorben.
"Es ist tragisch, dass zehn unschuldige Menschen starben, als sie einen unterhaltsamen Musikabend genießen wollten", erklärte die Staatsanwältin. "Aber eine Tragödie ist noch kein Verbrechen und ein Tod ist noch kein Mord", fügte sie hinzu.
Die Massenpanik hatte sich beim Astroworld-Festival im Zentrum von Houston mit rund 50.000 Zuschauern ereignet. Sie war während des Auftritts des Rappers Travis Scott ausgebrochen. Hunderte weitere Menschen wurden verletzt. Gegen die Organisatoren des Festivals waren zahlreiche Klagen eingereicht worden, weil diese nicht für die Sicherheit der Teilnehmer gesorgt hätten. Die nun veröffentlichte Entscheidung der Justiz betrifft nur Strafverfahren, Zivilverfahren sind weiterhin möglich.
