Schriftsteller T. C. Boyle schläft dank reinen Gewissens nachts durch
Das Durchschlafen ist für den US-Schriftsteller T. C. Boyle der Schlüssel zu einem glücklichen Leben. Er selbst könne das dank seines "reinen Gewissens", sagte der 73-jährige Bestsellerautor dem "Zeit"-Magazin laut Mitteilung vom Montag. Deshalb habe er "all die verrückten Dinge", die er in seiner Jugend getan habe, aufgegeben.
Boyles Eltern waren beide Alkoholiker und starben früh. Auch er selbst habe früher Heroin genommen und diese Sucht gerade rechtzeitig durch eine andere ersetzen können - das Schreiben. "Es ist eine gesunde Sucht", sagte Boyle. Das Schreiben habe ihn am Leben gehalten. "Man muss versuchen, eine Bedeutung für das eigene Leben zu finden, und ich tue das durch meine Arbeit."
