Disney kündigt komplette Übernahme von Streaming-Dienst Hulu an
Der US-Unterhaltungsriese Disney hat die vollständige Übernahme des in den USA beliebten Streamingdienstes Hulu angekündigt. Wie Disney am Mittwoch mitteilte, soll der Aufkauf am 1. Dezember abgeschlossen sein. Mit dem Erwerb von Anteilen im Wert von 8,6 Milliarden Dollar (umgerechnet rund 8,13 Milliarden Euro) von Internetanbieter Comcast geht Hulu in das Eigentum Disneys über. Disney hatte zuletzt einen Rückgang der Abonnentenzahlen seines Streamingdienstes Disney+ bekanntgegeben.
Die Ankündigung der Hulu-Übernahme erfolgte wenige Tage vor der Veröffentlichung der Quartalszahlen von Disney. Diese werden auch Aufschluss über die Entwicklung der Kabelfernseh- und Streamingangebote des Unternehmens geben werden.
Im August hatte Disney den Verlust von mehr als zehn Millionen Abonnenten im vorangegangenen Quartal gemeldet, insbesondere auf dem indischen Markt. Rivale Netflix hatte hingegen ein Wachstum von 11 Prozent bei den Abonnentenzahlen verkündet. Zuvor hatte Netflix das Teilen von Passwörtern eingeschränkt und ein vergünstigtes Abo mit Werbeeinblendungen in sein Angebot aufgenommen.
