Disney meldet sieben Millionen neue Abos bei Streamingsdienst
Der Unterhaltungsriese Disney hat im vierten Quartal nach eigenen Angaben sieben Millionen neue Abonnements für seinen Streamingdienst Disney+ gewinnen können. "Unsere Ergebnisse in diesem Quartal spiegeln die bedeutenden Fortschritte wider, die wir im vergangenen Jahr gemacht haben", kommentierte der Vorstandsvorsitzende Bob Iger am Mittwoch die unerwartet guten Zahlen. Iger verwies dabei insbesondere auf den Erfolg eines kürzlich hinzugefügten werbefinanzierten Abo-Modells.
In den vergangenen Quartalen musste Disney stets einen Rückgang der Abo-Zahlen für seinen Streamingdienst hinnehmen, was Zweifel an der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Disney+ aufkommen ließ. Nach dem vierten Quartal zählt der Dienst nun insgesamt 112,6 Millionen Abonnenten.
Die Streamingdienste der Gruppe, zu denen neben Disney+ noch der Sportdienst ESPN+ und Hulu gehören, machten einen Verlust von 420 Millionen Dollar. Im Vorjahreszeitraum waren es noch 1,47 Milliarden Dollar.
Der gesamte Disney-Konzern verzeichnete insgesamt von Juli bis September einen Umsatz von 21,2 Milliarden Dollar (rund 19,8 Milliarden Euro), was einem Plus von fünf Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum entspricht. Der Nettogewinn war mit 264 Millionen Dollar 63 Prozent höher als vor einem Jahr.
