Narren und Jecken am Rhein feiern Karnevalsauftakt
Pünktlich um 11.11 Uhr hält am Samstag in den rheinischen Karnevalshochburgen die fünfte Jahreszeit Einzug. Mit Alaaf und Helau starten tausende Jecken und Narren unter anderem in Köln, Düsseldorf und Mainz in die neue Karnevalssession, die mit dem Aschermittwoch am 14. Februar 2024 endet. Besonders starker Besucherandrang wird in der Domstadt im "Kwartier Latäng" rund um die Zülpicher Straße erwartet.
In der Kölner Altstadt schunkeln die Jecken traditionell mit dem designierten Dreigestirn aus Prinz, Bauer und Jungfrau in den Karneval. Viele Narren werden auch am Fastnachtsbrunnen in Mainz und am Düsseldorfer Rathaus erwartet, wo der Schelm Hoppeditz erwacht. Die Eröffnung des Straßenkarnevals an Weiberfastnacht wird am 8. Februar gefeiert.
