"Barbie"-Regisseurin Greta Gerwig wird beim Filmfestival von Cannes im kommenden Mai die Jury leiten. Das gaben die Organisatoren des Festivals an der südfranzösischen Côte d'Azur am Donnerstag bekannt. Die 40-jährige US-Regisseurin, Schauspielerin und Drehbuchautorin wird als Jury-Präsidentin auf den schwedische Regisseur Ruben Östlund folgen, der im vergangenen Mai die Jury in Cannes geleitet hatte.
Gerwig hatte mit der feministischen Satire "Barbie" über die menschgewordene Kult-Puppe einen riesigen Sommer-Hit gedreht. Der Spielfilm mit Margot Robbie und Ryan Gosling in den Hauptrollen wurde am Montag in neun Kategorien für die Golden Globes nominiert.
Bekannt ist die gebürtige Kalifornierin auch als Regisseurin der Filme "Lady Bird" (2017) und "Little Women" (2019). Als Schauspielerin wirkte sie unter anderem in den Filmen "Greenberg", "Frances Ha" und "Mistress America" mit.
Beim diesjährigen Filmfestival von Cannes war der Film "Anatomie eines Falls" mit der deutschen Schauspielerin Sandra Hüller mit dem Hauptpreis Goldene Palme ausgezeichnet worden. Im kommenden Jahr findet das Festival vom 14. bis 25. Mai statt. Es wird die 77. Ausgabe des legendären Filmfestivals.
