Netanjahu: Israel will Gasexport nach Italien steigern
Der israelische Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanjahu will nach eigenen Angaben die Gasexporte seines Landes nach Italien "steigern". Israel wolle zu dem Zweck die Zusammenarbeit mit dem italienischen Mineralöl- und Energiekonzern ENI ausbauen, sagte Netanjahu am Freitag dem italienischen Minister für Unternehmen, Adolfo Urso, bei einem Treffen mit Wirtschaftsvertretern des Landes in Rom.
Um "die Kapazitäten für den Gasexport von Israel nach Italien und von Italien nach Europa zu erhöhen", sollte seines Erachtens nach rasch die Möglichkeit geprüft werden, einen neuen Flüssiggas-Terminal zu errichten, "vielleicht auf Zypern", sagte Netanjahu weiter.
Wie Deutschland und andere europäische Länder hat auch Italien seit Beginn von Moskaus Angriffskrieg in der Ukraine zahlreiche Initiativen ergriffen, um sich von seiner Abhängigkeit von russischem Gas zu lösen. Israel hat riesige Gasreserven vor seiner Mittelmeer-Küste, verfügt aber über keine Pipeline, um das Gas von seinen Bohrinseln nach Südeuropa zu transportieren.
Eine Option wäre das Pipelineprojekt EastMed, das Erdgas aus dem östlichen Mittelmeer über Zypern, Kreta und das griechische Festland nach Italien bringen soll. Der Bau soll jedoch rund sechs Millionen Euro kosten und dürfte mindestens zwei bis vier Jahre dauern.
Netanjahu hält sich seit Donnerstag in Italien auf. Nach Angaben der israelischen Botschaft wird der israelische Regierungschef vom kommenden Mittwoch an bis Freitag auch Berlin besuchen. Es ist sein erster Staatsbesuch in Deutschland seit dem Amtsantritt seiner neuen ultrarechten Regierung im Dezember.
