Arbeitslosigkeit in den USA wieder leicht angestiegen
In den USA ist die Arbeitslosigkeit trotz der Schaffung von mehr als 300.000 neuen Jobs im Februar leicht angestiegen. Die Arbeitslosenquote lag im vergangenen Monat bei 3,6 Prozent, wie das US-Arbeitsministerium am Freitag in Washington mitteilte. Das waren 0,2 Prozentpunkte mehr als im Januar, als die Arbeitslosenquote mit 3,4 Prozent auf den niedrigsten Stand seit mehr als 50 Jahren gesunken war.
Im vergangenen Monat schuf die größte Volkswirtschaft der Welt den Angaben zufolge 311.000 neue Arbeitsplätze. Das war deutlich weniger als die 504.000 neuen Jobs vom Januar, aber trotzdem mehr als von Expertinnen und Experten erwartet. Analysten hatten mit 205.000 neuen Arbeitsplätzen gerechnet.
Die Arbeitslosenzahlen werden von der US-Notenbank Fed genauestens beobachtet. Die Zentralbank wird am 21. und 22. März über eine neue Leitzinserhöhung im Kampf gegen die hohe Inflation entscheiden. Fed-Chef Jerome Powell hatte kürzlich angekündigt, dass die Notenbank bei den Zinserhöhungen das Tempo wieder anziehen könnte, und dabei unter anderem auf den robusten Arbeitsmarkt verwiesen.
Die Fed hofft auf eine Abkühlung der US-Wirtschaft, damit die Inflation weiter zurückgeht. Der Anstieg der Verbraucherpreise lag zuletzt bei 6,4 Prozent, nach einem 40-Jahres-Hoch von 9,1 Prozent im vergangenen Juni.
