Süßwarenindustrie fordert vereinfachte Zuckerimporte in die EU
Der Bundesverband der Deutschen Süßwarenindustrie (BDSI) hat die EU-Kommission aufgefordert, den europäischen Markt für Zuckerimporte zu öffnen. "Ein Gegensteuern der Politik wäre notwendig, um die Knappheit am Markt sowie die Preisinflation beim Zucker einzudämmen", erklärte der BDSI am Mittwoch in Bonn. Derzeit sei der Zuckermarkt mit hohen Schutzzöllen "vom Weltmarkt weitgehend abgeschirmt". Das müsse sich ändern.
Zwar rechne die EU-Kommission für dieses Jahr mit einer Steigerung der heimischen Zuckerproduktion um sechs Prozent auf 15,5 Millionen Tonnen. Das reicht nach Ansicht des BDSI allerdings "noch lange" nicht aus, um den europäischen Bedarf zu decken. Dieser liege bei rund 17,5 Millionen Tonnen. "Trotz der hohen Zuckerpreise ist die Zuckerproduktion der EU immer noch viel zu niedrig und die Versorgungslage gefährdet", sagte der BDSI-Vorsitzende Bastian Fassin.
Zucker müsse vermehrt auch aus anderen Weltregionen importiert werden, dafür solle die Kommission die Einfuhrkontingente erhöhen. Der Zuckerpreis sei im vergangenen Jahr "dramatisch" angestiegen. Derzeit befinde er sich auf einem Allzeithoch, im Juni lag er 80 Prozent über dem Niveau des Vorjahres. Neben kurzfristigen Maßnahmen wie der Aussetzung der Zölle forderte der BDSI auch eine langfristig angelegte Neuausrichtung des EU-Zuckermarktes.
