IWF legt China Lockerung der strikten Null-Covid-Politik nahe
Der Internationale Währungsfonds (IWF) hat China eine Lockerung der strikten Null-Covid-Politik nahegelegt, die in dem Land zu beispiellosen Protesten geführt hat. Es gebe Raum für eine "weitere stufenweise, sichere Neukalibrierung" der Maßnahmen, erklärte ein IWF-Sprecher am Mittwoch gegenüber der Nachrichtenagentur AFP. Die Corona-Pandemie und im Kampf gegen das Virus verhängte Beschränkungen seien "hart" für die Menschen. "Das war überall so, und mehr noch in China."
Der IWF-Sprecher fügte hinzu, die Kontrollmaßnahmen nach Corona-Ausbrüchen seien auch ein Problem für die Wirtschaft des Landes. IWF-Chefin Kristalina Georgieva hatte bereits am Dienstag gewarnt, die internationale Finanzinstitution mit Sitz in Washington müsse ihre Wachstumsprognosen für China womöglich nach unten korrigieren.
Chinas strikte Null-Covid-Politik und die damit verbundenen Lockdowns haben eine landesweite Protestwelle ausgelöst. Mittlerweile richten sich die Proteste auch gegen Staatschef Xi Jinping. Es ist die größte Protestbewegung seit den Demokratie-Protesten 1989 auf dem Pekinger Tiananmen-Platz, den die kommunistische Führung blutig niedergeschlagen hatte.
