Behörden: Zahl der Corona-Toten in China um fast 80 Prozent gesunken
In China ist die Zahl der täglichen Corona-Toten nach offiziellen Angaben seit Anfang Januar um fast 80 Prozent zurückgegangen. Wie das chinesische Seuchenbekämpfungszentrum am Mittwoch mitteilte, meldeten die Krankenhäuser des Landes am Montag 896 Todesfälle, die auf eine Corona-Infektion zurückzuführen seien. Dies sei im Vergleich zum 4. Januar ein Rückgang um 79 Prozent.
Die Zahl der schweren Covid-19-Fälle sank demnach von 128.000 am 5. Januar auf 36.000 am Montag - ein Rückgang um 72 Prozent. Laut chinesischen Behörden und Staatsmedien hatte die Corona-Welle in der Volksrepublik Ende Dezember, Anfang Januar ihren Höhepunkt erreicht. Die Behörden warnten danach aber vor einer neuen Infektionswelle als Folge des massiven Reiseverkehrs zum chinesischen Neujahrsfest am vergangenen Sonntag.
Mitte Dezember hatte die Regierung in Peking ihre jahrelange strikte Null-Covid-Politik aufgegeben. Die Infektionszahlen stiegen explosionsartig an. Zwischen dem 8. Dezember 2022 und dem 12. Januar 2023 starben nach offiziellen Angaben fast 60.000 Menschen in China an der Krankheit.
Experten halten die von Chinas Behörden angegebenen Opferzahlen für deutlich zu gering. Im Dezember hatten chinesischen Behörden ihre Zählweise für Corona-Tote geändert. Nur Corona-Infizierte, die direkt wegen Versagens der Atmung gestorben sind, werden noch als Corona-Tote gezählt. Dadurch werden viele Todesfälle nicht mehr in der Corona-Statistik geführt.
