Staatsbesuch: Charles III. empfängt Ende Juni Japans Kaiser Naruhito
Der britische König Charles III. hat den japanischen Kaiser Naruhito zu einem Staatsbesuch nach London eingeladen. Wie der britische Königspalast am Freitag mitteilte, werden Charles und seine Frau Camilla Naruhito und Kaiserin Masako Ende Juni im Buckingham-Palast empfangen.
Das japanische Kaiserpaar war bereits im September 2022 nach Großbritannien gereist, damals aus Anlass der Beerdigung von Charles' Mutter Königin Elizabeth II. Sein ursprünglich für den Frühling 2020 geplanter Staatsbesuch hatte wegen der Corona-Pandemie verschoben werden müssen.
Der Buckingham-Palast gab am Freitag bekannt, dass der an Krebs erkrankte Charles ab kommender Woche wieder einige öffentliche Pflichten wahrnehmen werde. Dies sei dank der Fortschritte bei der Behandlung des 75-Jährigen möglich, hieß es aus dem Palast.
Die Krebserkrankung von Charles III. hatte der Buckingham-Palast Anfang Februar öffentlich gemacht. Der Monarch begann eine Therapie und sagte alle offiziellen Verpflichtungen ab. Er nahm jedoch weiterhin Termine im kleinen Kreis wahr.
