Putin wird bei Stalingrad-Gedenkveranstaltung erwartet
Der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin wird am Donnerstag in Wolgograd zu einer Gedenkveranstaltung zum 80. Jahrestag der entscheidenden Weltkriegsschlacht in der früher Stalingrad genannten Stadt erwartet. Genauere Angaben zur Uhrzeit von Putins Auftritt wurden im Vorfeld nicht bekanntgegeben. Am 2. Februar 1943 besiegelte die Kapitulation der 6. deutschen Armee die erste große Niederlage der Nazis gegen die Sowjetunion im Zweiten Weltkrieg.
Die Schlacht von Stalingrad wird in Russland bis heute als entscheidender Wendepunkt des Kriegs gefeiert. Im Vorfeld der Gedenkveranstaltungen zum 80. Jahrestag wurde in Wolgograd eine neue Büste des früheren sowjetischen Diktators Josef Stalin enthüllt.
