Erster Kühlturm an stillgelegtem Atomkraftwerk Biblis kontrolliert eingestürzt
Der erste Kühlturm des seit Jahren stillgelegten Atomkraftwerks Biblis in Hessen ist am Donnerstag wie geplant kontrolliert eingestürzt. Ein ferngesteuerter Bagger destabilisierte die Betonstruktur an dem 80 Meter hohen Turm so lange, bis er um 11.29 Uhr in sich zusammen fiel. Eine dichte Staubwolke zog über das Gelände in Südhessen. In den vergangenen Tagen waren nach Angaben des Betreibers RWE Risse in den Beton eingebaut worden. Der Turm stand auf sechs Pfeilern.
Seit März 2011 ist das Atomkraftwerk stillgelegt. Es gehörte zu jenen Anlagen, die im Zuge des Atommoratoriums wenige Tage nach dem Tsunami und der darauf folgenden Reaktorkatastrophe von Fukushima in Japan abgeschaltet wurden. Bereits zuvor hatte das Kraftwerk wegen zahlreicher Störfälle in der Kritik gestanden.
Seit 2017 läuft der Rückbau, 15 Jahre sind dafür insgesamt veranschlagt. Die letzten Brennstäbe wurden 2019 aus dem Kraftwerk entfernt und in ein Zwischenlager nahe der Anlage gebracht.
Der zweite Turm von Block A soll nach RWE-Angaben noch im Februar ebenfalls fallen. Mit einem Abbruch der beiden Türme in Block B wird für 2024 gerechnet.
