EU-Kreise: Selenskyj könnte am Donnerstag nach Brüssel reisen
Der ukrainische Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj könnte nach Angaben aus EU-Kreisen in dieser Woche nach Brüssel reisen. Es bestehe die Möglichkeit, dass am Donnerstag ein Sonderplenum des EU-Parlaments stattfinde, an dem Selenskyj persönlich teilnehme, hieß es am Montag aus Parlamentskreisen.
EU-Ratspräsident Charles Michel lud Selenskyj offiziell zur Teilnahme an "einem zukünftigen" EU-Gipfel ein, wie sein Sprecher im Onlinedienst Twitter mitteilte. Weitere Angaben wollte er "aus Sicherheitsgründen" nicht machen. Die Staats- und Regierungschefs der 27 EU-Mitgliedstaaten kommen am Donnerstag zu einem Sondergipfel in Brüssel zusammen.
Eine offizielle Bestätigung für einen bevorstehenden Besuch des ukrainischen Präsidenten in Brüssel gab es zunächst nicht. Die ukrainische Präsidentschaft äußerte sich nicht zu möglichen Reiseplanen.
Der Besuch in Brüssel wäre Selenskyjs zweite Auslandsreise seit Beginn der russischen Invasion in der Ukraine vor knapp einem Jahr. Im Dezember war er nach Washington gereist und hatte dort eine Rede vor dem US-Kongress gehalten.
Am Freitag hatte Selenskyj EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen und Ratspräsident Michel zu einem Gipfeltreffen in Kiew empfangen. Dabei ging es unter anderem um den ukrainischen EU-Beitrittswunsch, den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine und die weltweite Ernährungssicherheit.
