Biden beschwört in Rede zur Lage der Nation Stärke der US-Demokratie
US-Präsident Joe Biden hat in seiner Rede zur Lage der Nation die Stärke der Demokratie im Land beschworen. "Vor zwei Jahren stand unsere Demokratie ihrer größten Bedrohung seit dem Bürgerkrieg gegenüber", sagte Biden am Dienstagabend (Ortszeit) vor dem Kongress mit Blick auf die Kapitol-Erstürmung am 6. Januar 2021. "Heute ist unsere Demokratie trotz blauer Flecken ungebeugt und ungebrochen."
"Wir sind das einzige Land, das aus jeder Krise stärker hervorgegangen ist", sagte der Präsident in der sogenannten State of the Union Address weiter und ging dabei insbesondere auf die Corona-Pandemie und ihre Folgen ein. "Vor zwei Jahren war unsere Wirtschaft am Taumeln." Seitdem seien zwölf Millionen neue Jobs geschaffen worden, die wirtschaftliche Lage sei herausragend.
"Vor zwei Jahren hat Covid unsere Geschäfte dichtgemacht, unsere Schulen geschlossen und uns so vieler Dinge beraubt", sagte der Präsident weiter. "Heute kontrolliert Covid nicht länger unser Leben."
