Netanjahu will in Streit um Justizreform "Spaltung des Volkes" beenden
Im von heftigen Protesten begleiteten Streit um die Justizreform in Israel hat Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanyahu angekündigt, die "Spaltung des Volkes" beenden zu wollen. Er wolle die von seiner Regierung geplante Reform voranbringen, sagte er am Donnerstagabend in einer Fernsehansprache. Es müsse aber alles getan werden, um einen sowohl für Befürworter als auch für Gegner akzeptablen Kompromiss zu finden.
"Wir können nicht erlauben, dass eine Meinungsverschiedenheit, sei sie auch noch so stark, unsere gemeinsame Zukunft gefährdet", sagte Netanjahu. "Die Gegner der Reform sind keine Verräter, die Befürworter keine Faschisten." Er wolle alles tun, "um die Gemüter zu beruhigen und die Spaltung des Volkes zu beenden".
Die umstrittenen Pläne der ultrarechten Regierungskoalition zielen darauf ab, die Befugnisse der Justiz drastisch einzuschränken. Kritiker fürchten eine Aufhebung der Gewaltenteilung und damit eine Aushöhlung der Demokratie. Seit elf Wochen gibt es in Israel Massenproteste gegen das Vorhaben. Auch am Donnerstag demonstrierten wieder zehntausende Israelis in mehreren Städten des Landes gegen die Regierungspläne. Dabei kam es erneut auch zu Zusammenstößen von Demonstranten mit Sicherheitskräften, in Tel Aviv setzte die Polizei Wasserwerfer ein.
