Erste britische Challenger-Panzer in der Ukraine eingetroffen
Auch die ersten britischen Kampfpanzer vom Typ Challenger sind in der Ukraine eingetroffen und sollen bei einer Gegenoffensive der Ukraine im Frühjahr zum Einsatz kommen. Der ukrainische Verteidigungsminister Oleksij Resnikow teilte am Montag mit, er habe "Neuzugänge" für die ukrainischen Streitkräfte inspiziert - Challenger-Panzer sowie deutsche Marder-Schützenpanzer, gepanzerte Lkw vom Typ Cougar und gepanzerte Transporter vom Typ Stryker aus den USA.
Die Challenger-Panzer aus Großbritannien "sind bereits in der Ukraine", sagte die Sprecherin des ukrainischen Verteidigungsministeriums der Nachrichtenagentur AFP.
"Vor einem Jahr hätte niemand mit einer so starken Unterstützung unserer Partner gerechnet", erklärte Resnikow im Onlinedienst Facebook. Er bezeichnete die britischen Challenger als "militärische Kunstwerke".
Kurz zuvor war bekannt geworden, dass auch die von Deutschland zugesagten Leopard-2-Kampfpanzer inzwischen in der Ukraine eingetroffen sind. Deutschland hatte der Ukraine die Lieferung von 18 Leopard-Panzern vom Typ 2A6 zugesagt.
In den vergangenen beiden Monaten waren ukrainische Soldaten und Techniker in Deutschland am Leopard und am Marder ausgebildet worden.
