Stichwahl um Präsidentenamt in der Türkei hat begonnen
In der Türkei hat die Stichwahl um das Präsidentenamt begonnen. Die Wahllokale öffneten am Sonntag um 08.00 Uhr Ortszeit (07.00 Uhr MESZ) für die erste Stichwahl in der Geschichte des Landes, sie sollen um 17.00 Uhr Ortszeit schließen. Bei dem Urnengang gilt der langjährige Amtsinhaber Recep Tayyip Erdogan als Favorit, gegen ihn tritt der sozialdemokratische Oppositionsführer Kemal Kilicdaroglu an.
Erdogan hatte in der ersten Runde vor zwei Wochen rund fünf Prozentpunkte vor seinem Rivalen gelegen, jedoch die absolute Mehrheit knapp verpasst. Vor dem ersten Wahldurchgang hatte noch Oppositionsführer Kilicdaroglu laut Umfragen als aussichtsreichster Kandidat gegolten.
Erdogan lenkt seit 20 Jahren die Geschicke des Landes. Im Fall seiner erneuten Wahl für eine fünfjährige Amtszeit wird allgemein erwartet, dass der 69-jährige islamisch-konservative Staatschef seine Macht zementiert und seinen autoritären Kurs weiter verschärft.
Die in Deutschland lebenden Türken konnten bis Mittwoch ihre Stimme abgeben.
