Staatsfernsehen: Pakistans Ex-Premier Khan zu drei Jahren Haft verurteilt
Der ehemalige Premierminister Pakistans, Imran Khan, ist am Samstag wegen Korruption zu drei Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt worden. "Richter Humayun Dilawar gab bekannt, dass die Verwicklung in korrupte Tätigkeiten bewiesen wurde", berichtete der staatliche Fernsehsender Pakistan TV. Wie ein Vertreter von Khans Partei Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) mitteilte, wurde der Ex-Regierungschef, der während der Verhandlung nicht im Gerichtssaal war, im Anschluss an den Richterspruch festgenommen.
Das Urteil wurde im Zusammenhang mit Vorwürfen gefällt, dass Khan Staatsgeschenke aus seiner Zeit als Premierminister für sich behalten habe. Insgesamt wurden mehr als 150 Fälle von Korruption gegen den ehemaligen Cricketstar vorgebracht, seit er im April 2022 per Misstrauensvotum aus dem Amt befördert wurde. Khan bezeichnet die Strafverfolgung als politisch motiviert.
Khans Anwälte kündigten an, umgehend Berufung einzulegen. Es habe keine Möglichkeit gegeben, Zeugen vorzubringen oder Beweise zusammenzutragen, hieß es als Begründung.
