Gespräche über Gaza-Feuerpause: US-Außenminister Blinken reist nach Saudi-Arabien und Ägypten
In den Bemühungen um eine Feuerpause im Krieg zwischen Israel und der islamistischen Hamas im Gazastreifen und mehr humanitärer Hilfe reist US-Außenminister Antony Blinken in dieser Woche nach Saudi-Arabien und Ägypten. Blinken werde am Mittwoch Gespräche in Dschiddah mit Vertretern Saudi-Arabiens führen, ehe er am Donnerstag nach Kairo reisen werde, sagte US-Außenamtssprecher Matthew Miller am Dienstag. In Kairo sind demnach Gespräche mit Vertretern Ägyptens geplant.
Die USA und Ägypten sind neben Katar wichtige Vermittlerländer im Krieg zwischen Israel und der Hamas. Die Verhandlungen über eine Feuerpause und Geiselfreilassungen laufen seit Wochen. Auf dem Tisch liegt derzeit offenbar ein Vorschlag für eine sechswöchige Feuerpause und zu einem Austausch israelischer Geiseln gegen palästinensische Häftlinge.
Der Krieg im Gazastreifen war durch den brutalen Angriff der Hamas auf Israel am 7. Oktober ausgelöst worden, bei dem nach israelischen Angaben etwa 1160 Menschen getötet sowie rund 250 weitere als Geiseln in den Gazastreifen verschleppt wurden.
Israel geht seither massiv militärisch im Gazastreifen vor. Dabei wurden nach Angaben des von der Hamas kontrollierten Gesundheitsministeriums, die sich nicht unabhängig überprüfen lassen, bisher mehr als 31.700 Menschen getötet.
