Außenministerin Baerbock reist kommende Woche nach Saudi-Arabien
Bundesaußenministerin Annalena Baerbock (Grüne) wird kommende Woche nach Saudi-Arabien reisen. Baerbock werde am Montag nach Riad reisen, um dort "wichtige regionale Partner zu Gesprächen" zu treffen, sagte ein Außenamtssprecher am Freitag in Berlin. Der Fokus der Gespräche werde auf der Lage im Nahen Osten liegen.
Unter anderem werde die Außenministerin ihren Kollegen aus den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten sowie die UN-Beauftragte für humanitäre Hilfe im Gazastreifen, Sigrid Kaag, treffen, erläuterte der Sprecher. Bei dem Besuch werde es darum gehen, an einer "Deeskalation" der Krise in Nahost und "Fortschritten hin zu einer friedlichen Zukunft" zu arbeiten. Konkret nannte der Sprecher die Befreiung der israelischen Geiseln aus der Gefangenschaft der radikalislamischen Hamas und die "katastrophale" humanitäre Lage im Gazastreifen.
Baerbock ist seit Beginn des Kriegs zwischen Israel und der Hamas im Gazastreifen vor mehr als einem halben Jahr mehrmals zu Gesprächen in die Region gereist. Zuletzt war sie Mitte April in Israel, wo sie unter anderem Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanjahu traf.
Die von der EU und den USA als Terrororganisation eingestufte Hamas und weitere militante Palästinensergruppen waren am 7. Oktober in israelische Orte eingedrungen und hatten Gräueltaten an Zivilisten verübt. Nach israelischen Angaben töteten die islamistischen Kämpfer damals etwa 1170 Menschen, zudem verschleppten sie rund 250 Menschen als Geiseln in den Gazastreifen.
Als Reaktion auf den Großangriff geht Israel seitdem massiv militärisch im Gazastreifen vor. Dabei wurden nach Angaben des von der Hamas kontrollierten Gesundheitsministeriums, die sich nicht unabhängig überprüfen lassen, bisher mehr als 34.350 Menschen getötet.
Der Konflikt droht sich auf andere Länder der Region wie Syrien, den Libanon oder den Iran auszuweiten. Mitte April hatte Teheran erstmals von iranischem Staatsgebiet aus Israel direkt mit Raketen und Drohnen angegriffen.
