USA setzen auf Zusammenarbeit mit künftiger italienischer Regierung
Die USA setzen nach der Parlamentswahl in Italien auf eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit der künftigen Regierung in Rom und wollen sich für eine weitere Unterstützung der Ukraine und den Schutz der Menschenrechte einsetzen. "Wir sind erpicht darauf, mit der italienischen Regierung bei unseren gemeinsamen Zielen zusammenzuarbeiten: eine freie und unabhängige Ukraine zu unterstützen, die Menschenrechte zu respektieren und eine nachhaltige wirtschaftliche Zukunft aufzubauen", schrieb US-Außenminister Antony Blinken am Montag im Kurzbotschaftendienst Twitter.
"Italien ist ein äußerst wichtiger Verbündeter, eine starke Demokratie und ein geschätzter Partner", fügte Blinken hinzu.
Bei der Parlamentswahl in Italien erhielt die Ultrarechte Giorgia Meloni mit ihrer postfaschistischen Partei FDI Hochrechnungen zufolge rund ein Viertel der Stimmen und wird damit stärkste Kraft. Mit ihren Bündnispartnern der rechtsnationalen Lega und der konservativen Forza Italia (FI) kommt Meloni demnach auf gut 43 Prozent der Stimmen, was für eine absolute Mehrheit der Sitze im Abgeordnetenhaus und im Senat reichen dürfte.
Meloni dürfte somit die erste Frau an der Spitze einer italienischen Regierung werden. Ihr steht aber noch eine schwierige Regierungsbildung bevor.
