Brasilianer wählen Präsidenten und Parlament
Die Brasilianerinnen und Brasilianer sind am Sonntag dazu aufgerufen, einen Präsidenten zu wählen. Zur Wahl stehen der rechtsradikale Amtsinhaber Jair Bolsonaro und der linksgerichtete Ex-Präsident Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In Umfragen liegt Lula, der Brasilien bereits von 2003 bis 2010 regierte, deutlich vor Bolsonaro. Lula verbrachte wegen seiner Verwicklung in den Korruptionsskandal um den staatlichen Ölkonzern Petrobras 2018 und 2019 insgesamt 18 Monate im Gefängnis. Seine Verhaftung war damals umstritten.
Auch Parlamentsabgeordnete, Gouverneure und Senatoren werden gewählt. Lateinamerikas größte Volkswirtschaft ist politisch tief gespalten und Beobachter befürchten, dass es nach der Wahl zu Unruhen und Gewalt kommen könnte.
