Flick über Götze: "Zu Recht bei dieser Weltmeisterschaft"
Ein Kurz-Einsatz als Einwechselspieler in zwei WM-Partien: Mario Götze hatte bei seiner Rückkehr in die deutsche Fußball-Nationalmannschaft sicher auf etwas mehr Minuten gehofft. Doch Hansi Flick stärkte dem Final-Helden von 2014 den Rücken.
"Mario ist zu Recht dabei bei dieser Weltmeisterschaft, das hat er im Training gezeigt", betonte der Bundestrainer vor dem Gruppenfinale am Donnerstag (20.00 Uhr/ARD und MagentaTV) gegen Costa Rica. Auch gegen Spanien (1:1) sei Götze "eine Option" gewesen.
Am vergangenen Sonntag aber schmorte der 30-Jährige über die volle Spielzeit auf der Bank. Zum Auftakt gegen Japan (1:2) war Götze in der 67. Minute eingewechselt worden.
"Er ist sehr ballsicher und weiß genau, in welchem Raum er sich aufhalten muss. Vor allem sein letzter Pass ist klasse", lobte Flick den Profi von Eintracht Frankfurt: "Das sind die Dinge, die wir von ihm brauchen. Wir werden sehen, wie wir ihn integrieren."
