Biathlet Rees sprintet auf das Podest
Roman Rees hat sich im Biathlon-Sprint von Kontiolahti mit einem Podestplatz für seine starke Frühform belohnt. Über 10 km lief der 29-Jährige nach zwei fehlerfreien Schießeinlagen mit 18,3 Sekunden Rückstand auf Rang drei. Es gewann zum 53. Mal in einem Weltcup-Einzelrennen der fünfmalige Olympiasieger Johannes Thingnes Bö (Norwegen) vor seinem Teamkollegen Sturla Holm Laegreid (+10,4 Sekunden).
Für Rees war es der zweite Podestplatz der Karriere, im Februar 2019 war er im Sprint von Salt Lake City ebenfalls Dritter geworden. Auch die anderen Deutschen überzeugten: David Zobel (1 Schießfehler/+1:06,4), Benedikt Doll (2/+1:11,2) und Johannes Kühn (2/+1:15,9) erreichten souverän die Top 20, auch Justus Strelow (0/+1:25,8) zeigte ein starkes Rennen. Philipp Nawrath leistete sich zwei Schießfehler.
Zuvor hatten bereits Zobel und Rees als Dritter und Vierter im Einzel sowie die Staffel, die auf Rang zwei lief, für starke Resultate gesorgt. Das 7,5-km-Sprintrennen der Frauen um Olympiasiegerin Denise Herrmann-Wick beginnt um 13.45 Uhr, Franziska Preuß fehlt dabei erneut wegen gesundheitlicher Probleme. Am Sonntag enden die Wettbewerbe in Kontiolahti mit den beiden Verfolgern (ab 12.15 Uhr/ARD und Eurosport).
