Kiptum und Gidey bei Marathon-Debüt mit Fabelzeiten
Traumzeiten beim letzten großen Marathon des Jahres: Der Kenianer Kelvin Kiptum hat in Valencia das schnellste Debüt in der Geschichte der klassischen 42,195 km hingelegt und ist in 2:01:53 Stunden auf Platz drei der "ewigen" Bestenliste gelaufen. Bei den Frauen setzte sich die Äthiopierin Amane Beriso in 2:14:58 Stunden ebenfalls an Position drei unter den schnellsten Läuferinnen der Marathon-Historie.
Bei perfekten Bedingungen verfehlte der 23 Jahre alte Kiptum den Weltrekord seines Landsmanns Eliud Kipchoge vom Berlin-Marathon im September (2:01:09) nur um 44 Sekunden. Neben Kipchoge und dem Äthiopier Kenenisa Bekele (2:01:41) ist Kiptum nun drittes Mitglied im "Sub-2:02-Klub".
Beriso sortierte sich unter den historisch besten Athletinnen hinter der Weltrekordlerin Brigid Kosgei (2:14:04) und deren kenianischer Landsfrau Ruth Chepngetich (2:14:18) ein. 10.000-m-Weltmeisterin Letesenbet Gidey lag mit ihrer Landsfrau Beriso lange auf Weltrekordkurs und lief in 2:16:58 Stunden letztlich das beste Frauen-Debüt der Geschichte.
