Griner kommt über Austausch frei: "Sie ist im Flugzeug"
Die seit Februar in Russland inhaftierte US-Basketballerin Brittney Griner ist im Rahmen eines Gefangenenaustausch freigekommen und auf dem Weg in die Heimat. "Sie ist in Sicherheit. Sie sitzt in einem Flugzeug. Sie ist auf dem Weg nach Hause", schrieb US-Präsident Joe Biden bei Twitter. Er habe gerade mit ihr gesprochen.
Griner war Anfang August zu neun Jahren Haft verurteilt und zuletzt von Moskau in eine Strafkolonie in der Republik Mordowien verlegt worden. In den USA wird berichtet, dass die Vereinigten Staaten und Russland sich auf einen Austausch geeinigt hätten, der die zweimalige Olympiasiegerin erlöst. Im Gegenzug soll der frühere russische Waffenhändler Wiktor But nach Russland zurückkehren, der "Händler des Todes" sitzt seit 2010 in einem US-Gefängnis.
Griner war am Moskauer Flughafen Scheremetjewo festgenommen worden, weil sie Vape-Kartuschen mit Cannabis-Öl in ihrem Gepäck mitführte.
