Darts: Smith als möglicher Clemens-Gegner im WM-Halbfinale
Der Engländer Michael Smith steht im Halbfinale der Darts-WM in London. Der Vizeweltmeister von 2019 und 2022 setzte sich am Sonntagnachmittag in seinem Viertelfinalduell mit 5:3 gegen Landsmann Stephen Bunting durch. Smith führte lange deutlich und nutzte schließlich seinen zweiten Matchdart zum 3:1 im achten Satz. Der 32-Jährige ist im Halbfinale der mögliche Gegner des deutschen Hoffnungsträgers Gabriel Clemens.
Clemens trifft am Abend auf den Weltranglistenersten Gerwyn Price (Wales). Der 39-Jährige aus Saarwellingen hatte sich am Freitag mit einem Sieg über den Schotten Alan Soutar als erster Deutscher für ein WM-Viertelfinale qualifiziert. Das letzte Viertelfinale am Abend bildet das Match von Michael van Gerwen (Niederlande) und Chris Dobey (England).
Am frühen Nachmittag erreichte bereits Dimitri van den Bergh zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere das WM-Halbfinale. Der 28 Jahre alte Belgier schlug den Waliser Jonny Clayton mit 5:3 und spielt am Montag um den Einzug ins Finale. Van den Bergh, der wie Smith ein Preisgeld von 100.000 Pfund sicher hat, nutzte in einem umkämpften Duell seinen zweiten Matchdart und checkte die Doppel neun.
