Darts-Sensation: Clemens steht im WM-Halbfinale
Der deutsche Darts-Profi Gabriel Clemens steht bei der WM in London sensationell im Halbfinale. Der 39 Jahre alte Saarwellinger gewann sein Viertelfinale am Sonntagabend sensationell deutlich mit 5:1 gegen den Weltranglistenersten Gerwyn Price aus Wales. Bereits der Einzug des "German Giant" in die Runde der besten acht war der erste eines deutschen Darts-Spielers in der Geschichte der Weltmeisterschaft gewesen.
Clemens war im ersten Satz chancenlos gegen den Weltmeister von 2021. Doch Price konnte sein Niveau nicht lange halten, Clemens dagegen agierte auf konstant hohem Level und entnervte so den hohen Favoriten peu a peu. Nach 1:3-Satzrückstand spielte Price mit einem Gehörschutz, doch auch diese höchst ungewöhnliche Maßnahme brachte keine Wende mehr.
Clemens' Gegner im Halbfinale am Montag ist der Engländer Michael Smith. Der Vizeweltmeister von 2019 und 2022 setzte sich am Sonntagnachmittag in seinem Viertelfinalduell mit 5:3 gegen Landsmann Stephen Bunting durch. Smith führte lange deutlich und nutzte schließlich seinen zweiten Matchdart zum 3:1 im achten Satz.
Das letzte Viertelfinale am Abend bildet das Match von Michael van Gerwen (Niederlande) und Chris Dobey (England). Am frühen Nachmittag erreichte bereits Dimitri van den Bergh zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere das WM-Halbfinale. Der 28 Jahre alte Belgier schlug den Waliser Jonny Clayton mit 5:3.
