Günter hofft weiter auf erstes Turnierspiel
Fußball-Nationalspieler Christian Günter hat nach zwei Turnieren ohne Einsatz seine Hoffnung auf eine WM- oder EM-Teilnahme mit eigener Partie noch nicht aufgegeben. "Ich wäre gerne weiter Teil der Nationalmannschaft", sagte er Kapitän des SC Freiburg dem kicker: "Ich werde Gas geben, dass ich vielleicht noch mal ein solches Turnier erleben darf, bei dem die Mannschaft hoffentlich erfolgreicher ist."
Günter gehörte bei der 2021 ausgetragenen EM und der WM 2022 jeweils zum deutschen Kader, kam aber keine Minute zum Einsatz. Bislang hat der Außenverteidiger sieben Länderspiele absolviert.
Die WM in Katar sei aber "auch ohne Spielminuten eine außergewöhnliche Erfahrung" gewesen, sagte Günter: "Im Verein stehe ich oft auf dem Platz und sage auch nicht zu den Kollegen auf der Bank oder der Tribüne: Ihr gehört nicht dazu. Es gehören alle dazu. Ich sehe das große Ganze."
Noch ist offen, welche Rolle der 29-Jährige künftig im DFB-Team spielen wird. "Hansi Flick hat schon angekündigt, dass es vielleicht die eine oder andere Veränderung geben wird. Ich bin selbst gespannt, wie meine Rolle aussieht. Im März wird sich ein bisschen was abzeichnen, wo die Reise hingehen wird", sagt er mit Blick auf den Länderspiel-Auftakt gegen Peru und Belgien.
