Kiel löst Pflichtaufgabe in Melsungen ohne Mühe
Handball-Rekordmeister THW Kiel hat im engen Titelrennen der Bundesliga seine Hausaufgaben seriös erledigt. Die Mannschaft von Trainer Filip Jicha setzte sich am Sonntag 23:19 (14:9) bei der MT Melsungen durch und hielt den Druck auf Tabellenführer Füchse Berlin und die Rhein-Neckar Löwen aufrecht.
Der Schwede Eric Johansson war am Sonntag mit sieben Toren der beste Werfer für die Kieler, die am kommenden Wochenende die Füchse zum Spitzenspiel empfangen. In der Tabelle ist der THW weiter Dritter (36:8 Punkte) hinter den Löwen (37:9) und Berlin (39:7). Die Norddeutschen haben noch ein Spiel in der Hinterhand. Melsungen kassierte die fünfte Niederlage in Folge und bleibt in 2023 ohne Pluspunkt.
Am Samstag hatte die SG Flensburg-Handewitt überraschend einen Zähler liegen gelassen. Das Team von Trainer Maik Machulla kam nach zuletzt sechs Siegen in Serie nicht über ein 27:27 bei Frisch Auf Göppingen hinaus. Mit 33:11 Punkten liegt die SG als Tabellenfünfter nun bereits vier Minuspunkte hinter den Berlinern.
Der SC Magdeburg, mit 33:9 Punkten der fünfte Klub im Titelkampf, ist am Sonntagnachmittag (16.05 Uhr) noch bei Aufsteiger ASV Hamm-Westfalen gefordert. Der deutsche Meister hatte am Donnerstag überraschend bei der TSV Hannover-Burgdorf verloren und strebt eine Wiedergutmachung an.
