Verletzter Haaland "frustriert und verzweifelt"
Seine Leistenverletzung und der damit verbundene Ausfall für den Auftakt in der EM-Qualifikation mit Norwegen hat Stürmerstar Erling Haaland schwer getroffen. Nationalcoach Staale Solbakken berichtete von einem Treffen mit dem "niedergeschlagenen" Angreifer auf seinem Hotelzimmer um Mitternacht. Haaland sei "zutiefst frustriert und verzweifelt" gewesen, sagte der norwegische Trainer.
Haaland und er hätten lange diskutiert, ob es nicht doch eine Chance auf einen Einsatz gegen Spanien am Samstag oder Georgien drei Tage später gebe. "Aber er musste sich an die Fakten halten, auch wenn er dabei ein schlechtes Gefühl hatte. Es gab keine Möglichkeit."
Solbakken wehrte sich gegen den Eindruck, Haaland würde sich für seinen Verein Manchester City, in der Champions League Viertelfinalgegner von Bayern München, schonen. "Wenn Sie ihn in meinem Hotelzimmer nachts um zwölf gesehen hätten, würden Sie das verstehen", sagte er dem norwegischen Rundfunk NRK, "er hat alles getan, was er tun konnte."
Haaland hatte nach dem Viertelfinale im FA Cup mit City gegen den FC Burnley (6:0) am vergangenen Samstag Schmerzen verspürt. Ihm droht ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit, um für das Premier-League-Topspiel am 1. April gegen den FC Liverpool fit zu werden. Das Hinspiel gegen die Bayern in Manchester steigt am 11. April.
