Schwimmen: McIntosh knackt Weltrekord über 400 m Freistil
Die kanadische Nachwuchs-Schwimmerin Summer McIntosh hat den Weltrekord über 400 m Freistil geknackt. Die 16-Jährige stellte am Dienstag in Toronto mit 3:56,08 Minuten eine neue Bestmarke auf und unterbot den vorherigen Weltrekord der Australierin Ariarne Titmus um 32 Hundertstel. "In den letzten Jahren habe ich mein ganzes Leben in diese Sache gesteckt", sagte McIntosh: "Ich hätte mir nie träumen lassen, dass ich das erreichen würde."
McIntosh hatte erstmals 2021 bei den Olympischen Spielen in Tokio mit starken Leistungen auf sich aufmerksam gemacht. Bei der WM im vergangenen Jahr in Budapest gewann sie über die 400 m Freistil Silber hinter Superstar Katie Ledecky und sicherte sich zudem Gold über 200 m Schmetterling und 400 m Lagen.
Die neue Bestmarke über 400 m Freistil stellte sie nun beim kanadischen Auswahlmeeting für die kommende WM im japanischen Fukuoka (14. bis 30. Juli) auf.
