Nach 431 Tagen Auswärtsflaute: Hill dankt "Mom und Gott"
Nach endlos langen 431 Tagen hat medi Bayreuth seine Durststrecke beendet und wieder einen Auswärtssieg in der Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) geholt. "Vielen Dank an meine Mom und an Gott, ich habe um so etwas gebetet und anscheinend wurde ich erhört", sagte Ahmed Hill nach dem 113:107 (55:36) bei den Fraport Skyliners in Frankfurt.
Hill sorgte mit 37 Punkten für einen persönlichen Bestwert. "Ich weiß gar nicht, wie ich so eine Leistung erbringen konnte", erklärte der Shooting Guard aus den USA. Allerdings habe das Team auch "füreinander gespielt".
"Wir haben großen Charakter gezeigt", sagte Bayreuths deutscher Nationalspieler Bastian Doreth: "Jeder musste in die Bresche springen. Am Ende hat man wieder etwas Unsicherheit feststellen können, aber sowas ist ja normal, wenn man bedenkt, wie es bisher lief."
Bayreuth ist weiter Tabellenletzter, mit sechs Siegen und 24 Niederlagen ist der Abstieg kaum noch zu verhindern. "Der Sieg freut mich sehr", so Trainer Mladen Drijencic, "jetzt haben unsere weiteren Spiele einen Sinn, denn sonst hätten wir nur noch rumgeeiert." Im Falle einer Niederlage wäre das Aus besiegelt gewesen.
