Mourinho vor Rückspiel: "Bin ein anderer Mensch geworden"
Voller Selbstlosigkeit ins nächste Endspiel? Star-Trainer Jose Mourinho von Bayer Leverkusens Halbfinal-Gegner AS Rom hat sich vor dem Europa-League-Rückspiel als geläuterter Mann präsentiert. "Ich bin ein anderer Mensch geworden und denke inzwischen mehr an andere als an mich selbst", sagte "The Special One" vor der Partie am Donnerstagabend (21.00 Uhr/RTL) in der BayArena.
"Die Gegenwart ist wichtiger. Die Vergangenheit ist die Vergangenheit. Wir kennen die Zukunft nicht", sagte Mourinho. Er wolle "natürlich" gerne das Finale erreichen, "aber nicht in erster Linie für mich selbst". Stattdessen würde er sich "so sehr für die Jungs und für die Fans freuen", beteuerte der exzentrische Portugiese: "Für die Fans, weil sie absolut außergewöhnlich sind, und für die Jungs, weil sie eine unglaubliche Gruppe sind und in dieser Saison alles geben."
Das Abschneiden in der Europa League werde keinen Einfluss auf seine eigene Zukunft haben, so Mourinho, der zuletzt auch mit dem französischen Spitzenklub Paris St. Germain in Verbindung gebracht wurde. "Ich möchte über das ein oder andere Thema nicht reden", sagte er. Er denke derzeit weder an das Endspiel noch an seine eigene Zukunft.
Nach dem 1:0-Hinspielsieg im Stadio Olimpico geht die Roma mit einer guten Ausgangsposition in die Partie. In der vergangenen Saison hatte Mourinho mit seinem Team die erste Auflage der Conference League gewonnen. Zuvor hatte er mit dem FC Porto (2004) und Inter Mailand (2010) in der Champions League, 2017 mit Manchester United in der Europa League und 2003 mit Porto in deren Vorläufer UEFA-Cup triumphiert.
