Golf: Deutsches Duo schafft Cut bei PGA Championship
Die beiden deutschen Golfprofis Stephan Jäger (München) und Yannik Paul (Viernheim) haben bei der PGA Championship den Cut geschafft. Jäger liegt mit 142 Schlägen auf Platz 30, Paul mit drei Schlägen mehr auf Rang 59. Bei seiner ersten Majorteilnahme steigerte sich der 29-Jährige auf der zweiten Runde und schaffte mit einer 69 (drei unter Par) die Qualifikation fürs Wochenende in Rochester/New York.
In das startet ein Trio an der Spitze: Scottie Scheffler (USA), Corey Conners (Kanada) und Viktor Hovland (Norwegen) haben mit 135 Schlägen die besten Aussichten auf den Titel. Der würde Scheffler wieder auf Platz eins der Weltrangliste hieven. Dort steht noch Masters-Champion Jon Rahm (Spanien), der sich nach seinem verpatzten Auftakt steigerte, allerdings neun Schläge Rückstand auf die Führenden hat.
Das Turnier im Oak Hill Club ist das zweite Major der Saison und mit 15 Millionen US-Dollar dotiert. Titelverteidiger ist Justin Thomas (USA), dem nach zwei Runden mit fünf Schlägen über Par (145) gerade noch der Cut gelang. Der viermalige Turniersieger Tiger Woods (USA) verzichtet wie auch der 2010-Champion Martin Kaymer (Mettmann) auf das Event.
