Final-Drama trifft Popp hart: "Will es gar nicht anschauen"
Alexandra Popp wollte dieses schmerzhafte Finale am liebsten so schnell wie möglich vergessen. "Eigentlich will ich es mir gar nicht anschauen", meinte die Kapitänin des VfL Wolfsburg zur doch notwendigen Video-Analyse nach diesem 2:3 (2:0) gegen den FC Barcelona - um besser zu begreifen, was nach der 2:0-Führung zur Halbzeit schiefgegangen war.
Die 32-Jährige versuchte, ihre grenzenlose Enttäuschung über den verpassten Champions-League-Triumph in Stolz über diese kräftezehrende Saison zwischen EM und WM zu verwandeln. "Wir standen im Finale, wir haben Barcelona die Stirn geboten, wir haben den Pokal gewonnen, wir sind Vizemeister. Das kann sich schon sehen lassen."
Das Wichtigste am verpassten Triple sei, so die erste Erkenntnis, dass "wir zum größten Teil selbst dran schuld sind, dass wir die Spiele verloren haben, weil wir in entscheidenden Phasen die Fehler machen oder nicht richtig da sind." Ziehe das Team daraus die richtigen Schlüsse, "macht das Hoffnung auf mehr in den kommenden Jahren", so die Vize-Europameisterin.
Dafür braucht es aber auch die Aufarbeitung dieses denkwürdigen Endspiels - die vierte Wolfsburger Final-Niederlage in Folge nach 2016, 2018 und 2020. Auch wenn Alexandra Popp daran an diesem Abend in Eindhoven nicht denken mochte.
