Der kurze Urlaub ist schon wieder vorbei - die deutsche Fußball-Nationalmannschaft nimmt einen langen Anlauf auf die Heim-EM 2024. "Der Fahrplan ist, die Spiele zu gewinnen, guten Fußball zu spielen. Uns weiterzuentwickeln, uns weiter als Mannschaft zu finden", sagte Jonas Hofmann von Borussia Mönchengladbach vor dem Länderspiel-Dreierpack gegen die Ukraine, Polen und Kolumbien.
Zwölf Monate vor dem Heimturnier sei die Mannschaft gefordert, eine neue Begeisterung zu entfachen. "Wir wollen die Leute wieder ins Boot holen, dass wir geschlossen auftreten, sich jeder reinhaut", betonte Hofmann, der nach der anstrengenden Saison ein paar Tage in Rom verbracht hatte, am Mittwochabend bei der Ankunft in Frankfurt. Denn: "Auch wenn es nur Testspiele sind, ist es wichtig, dass wir Vollgas geben."
Der Auftakt gegen die Ukraine am Montag (18.00 Uhr ZDF) in Bremen ist in zweierlei Hinsicht besonders: Es ist das 1000. Länderspiel in der Geschichte des Deutschen Fußball-Bundes (DFB) und soll ein weithin sichtbares Zeichen für den Frieden senden. Sich nach wenigen Tagen Freizeit zu motivieren, sagte Hofmann, "ist überhaupt nicht schwer. Es ist immer wieder eine Ehre und ein Privileg, hier zu sein. Ich bin voller Vorfreude."
Vier Tage später folgt das Auswärtsspiel gegen Polen in Warschau, am 20. Juni wird Deutschland in Gelsenkirchen zudem von Kolumbien gefordert. "Wir wollen gut ins EM-Jahr kommen, alle werden brennen", sagte DFB-Sportdirektor Rudi Völler: "Es ist wichtig, dass alle auch nach der Saison noch einmal eine Schippe drauflegen."
