Paralympisches Feuer erloschen - Parsons: "Für eine gemeinsame Zukunft"
Die 13. Paralympischen Winterspiele sind am Sonntag im Nationalstadion von Peking mit einer pompösen Feier beendet worden. Unter den Augen von Chinas Staatspräsident Xi Jinping erlosch um 20.49 Uhr Ortszeit das Feuer, das in 899 Tagen bei den Sommerspielen in Paris (28. August bis 8. September 2024) wieder entzündet wird. Die deutsche Fahne trug Biathlon-Goldmedaillengewinnerin Leonie Walter mit Guide Pirmin Strecker in das "Vogelnest".
Die Spiele in China standen im Schatten des Krieges in der Ukraine, der die Wettkämpfe enorm beeinflusste. "Im Paralympischen Dorf gab es verschiedene Nationen, verschiedene Ansichten, verschiedene Fähigkeiten", sagte Andrew Parsons, Präsident des Internationalen Paralympischen Komitees (IPC): "Die Unterschiede haben uns nicht getrennt, sie haben uns vereint - für eine gemeinsame Zukunft."
Die Paralympische Bewegung hofft, so Parsons, "dass die führenden Politiker der Welt sich von den Aktionen der stolzen Paralympioniken inspirieren lassen." Unter dem Einfluss des fürchterlichen Angriffskrieges Russlands zeigten vor allem die Ukrainer hervorragende Leistungen. Insgesamt gewann das Team 29 Medaillen, darunter elf goldene.
Die deutsche Mannschaft schloss die Winterspiele mit 19 Mal Edelmetall auf Rang sieben des Medaillenspiegels ab. Vor vier Jahren in Pyeongchang hatte Deutschland mit derselben Anzahl noch auf dem fünften Platz gelegen. In Peking holte das Team D vier Gold-, acht Silber- und sieben Bronzemedaillen.
Erfolgreichste Nation war überraschend China mit 61 Medaillen (18/20/23) deutlich vor der Ukraine (29 - 11/10/8) und Kanada (25 - 8/6/11). Vor Deutschland lag unter anderem auch noch Österreich (13 - 5/5/3). Die nächsten Winterspiele finden 2026 in Mailand und Cortina d'Ampezzo statt.
Friedhelm Julius Beucher war vollends zufrieden. "Es gab Glücksmomente für die ganze Mannschaft. Das ganze Team Deutschland Paralympics hat hier abgeliefert in einer wunderbaren Art und Weise. Ich bin überwältigt", sagte der Präsident des Deutschen Behindertensportverbands (DBS) dem Sport-Informations-Dienst (SID).
