Diamond League: Tsegay bricht Weltrekord über 5000 m
Die äthiopische 10.000-Meter-Weltmeisterin Gudaf Tsegay ist neue Weltrekordhalterin über 5000 Meter. Beim Diamond-League-Meeting in Eugene/Oregon siegte die 26-Jährige am Sonntag in 14:00,21 Minuten.
Tsegay unterbot damit die bisherige Bestmarke der Kenianerin Faith Kipyegon (14:05,20) aus dem Juni diesen Jahres um knapp fünf Sekunden. Zweite hinter Tsegay wurde in Eugene die Kenianerin Beatrice Chebet in 14:05,92, der drittschnellsten bisher gelaufenen Zeit.
Tsegay hatte 2022 an gleicher Stelle bei den Weltmeisterschaften über 5000 m triumphiert. Ein Jahr später siegte sie in Budapest über die doppelte Distanz, wurde über 5000 m aber nur 13.
