Duplantis verbessert eigenen Stabhochsprung-Weltrekord
Stabhochsprung-Wunderkind Armand Duplantis aus Schweden hat seinen eigenen Weltrekord verbessert. Beim abschließenden Diamond-League-Meeting in Eugene/Oregon übersprang der 23 Jahre alte Olympiasieger 6,23 Meter. Er verbesserte damit die Freiluft-Bestmarke, die er bei den Weltmeisterschaften 2022 an gleicher Stelle selbst aufgestellt hatte, um zwei Zentimeter. Der alte Weltrekord lag bei 6,22 m, die "Mondo" im Februar unter dem Hallendach erzielt hatte.
"Ich versuche einfach, hoch zu springen", sagte Duplantis, der glaubt, dass er den Weltrekord weiter nach oben schrauben kann: "Das Limit ist sehr hoch, aber ich hoffe, dass ich weiterhin gut springen kann und höher springe, als ich es heute getan habe."
Duplantis übersprang die Latte bereits in seinem ersten Versuch über die Rekordhöhe und ließ sich von den begeisterten Fans feiern. Zweiter wurde der Ernest John Obiena (Philippinen) mit 5,82 m vor Ex-Weltmeister Sam Kendricks (USA/5,72 m). Deutsche Athleten wie der verletzte Bo Kanda Lita Baehre (Leverkusen) waren in Eugene nicht am Start.
Duplantis ist der absolute Dominator der Stabhochsprung-Szene. 2021 holte er Olympiagold in Tokio, er ist zudem zweimaliger Weltmeister (2022, 2023), zweimaliger Europameister (2018, 2022) und hat auch in der Halle schon jeweils einen WM- und EM-Titel gewonnen.
