BBL: Auftaktsieg für Weltmeister Thiemann und Alba
Weltmeister Johannes Thiemann ist im ersten Einsatz nach dem Goldcoup von Manila mit Alba Berlin ein Auswärtssieg zum Start in die Saison der Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) gelungen. Der neue Kapitän gewann mit dem früheren Serienmeister 90:81 (44:39) bei den MLP Academics Heidelberg.
Thiemann stieg als erster von vier deutschen Weltmeistern in die BBL-Spielzeit ein und kam mit 14 Punkten sowie zehn Rebounds auf ein Double-Double. Topscorer der Berliner war Neuzugang Matt Thomas (21 Punkte). Alba war in der vergangenen Saison erstmals seit 2019 wieder ohne Titel geblieben.
Rasta Vechta meldete sich mit einem klaren Sieg zurück. Der Aufsteiger schlug die Bamberg Baskets 101:79 (46:48), ausschlaggebend war das einseitige dritte Viertel (37:10). Topscorer der Gastgeber, die nach zwei Jahren Pause wieder in der BBL spielen, war Tommy Kuhse (26 Punkte).
Meister ratiopharm Ulm hatte das Eröffnungsspiel der 58. BBL-Saison gehen die Niners Chemnitz am Mittwoch 90:85 (51:42) gewonnen. Titelfavorit Bayern München steigt am Freitag (20.00 Uhr/Dyn) zu Hause mit seinen Weltmeistern Andreas Obst, Isaac Bonga und Niels Giffey gegen den Syntainics MBC aus Weißenfels in die Saison ein.
