Zverev in Peking im Viertelfinale
Deutschlands Spitzenspieler Alexander Zverev hat beim ATP-Turnier in Peking das Viertelfinale erreicht. Wenige Tage nach seinem Turniersieg in Chengdu setzte sich der Weltranglistenzehnte mit 6:7 (4:7), 6:2, 6:1 gegen den Spanier Alejandro Davidovich Fokina durch. Im Viertelfinale am Montag hat es Zverev mit dem Chilenen Nicolas Jarry zu tun.
Den ersten Satz gegen Davidovich hielt Zverev bis zum 5:5 offen, dann nutzte der Spanier seinen zweiten Breakball zum 6:5. Zverev konterte, rettete sich in den Tiebreak und hatte am Ende doch das Nachsehen, als Davidovich nach 1:14 Stunden seinen ersten Satzball verwandelte.
Danach drehte Zverev auf. 45 Minuten später hatte er mit 6:2 den Satzausgleich gegen einen nun komplett überforderten Gegner geschafft, nach 2:34 Stunden brachte er seinen ersten Matchball gegen einen körperlich zunehmend abbauenden Gegner ins Ziel.
Zverev, zweimaliger Halbfinalist in der chinesischen Hauptstadt (2017, 2019), darf damit weiter auf den dritten Titel in seiner Comebacksaison und den insgesamt 22. auf der ATP-Tour hoffen. Vor dem Turniersieg in Chengdu hatte der Hamburger Ende Juli in seiner Heimatstadt triumphiert.
Beim 500er-Turnier in Peking schlägt mit Ausnahme des US-Open-Siegers Novak Djokovic ein Großteil der Weltelite auf. So auch der Weltranglistenzweite Carlos Alcaraz, der im Achtelfinale am Sonntag auf den Italiener Lorenzo Musetti trifft.
