DTB: Gutekunst stärkt Bundestrainer Wiersma den Rücken
Ungeachtet des Olympia-Aus für die deutsche Riege hat Thomas Gutekunst, Sportdirektor des Deutschen Turner-Bundes (DTB), Frauen-Bundestrainer Gerben Wiersma den Rücken gestärkt. "Der Coach hat in eineinhalb intensiven Jahren einen guten Job gemacht. Natürlich sind wir sehr enttäuscht, aber es gibt keine Vorwürfe", sagte Gutekunst bei den Weltmeisterschaften in Antwerpen.
Personell geschwächt hatten die deutschen Kunstturnerinnen bei den Welttitelkämpfen in Belgien in der Qualifikation Rang 13 belegt und den fürs Olympia-Ticket erforderlichen zwölften Rang um nicht einmal 0,2 Punkte verpasst. Wiersma musste im Sportpaleis ohne die deutsche Rekordmeisterin Elisabeth Seitz aus Stuttgart (Achillessehnenriss) sowie die Chemnitzerin Emma Malewski (Fuß-OP) auskommen.
Gutekunst erinnerte in diesem Zusammenhang an die großen Erfolge, die der Niederländer bei den letztjährigen European Championships in München mit seinen Schützlingen gefeiert hatte. Im Teamwettbewerb hatten die Gastgeberinnen die Bronzemedaille gewonnen, EM-Gold holten Seitz am Stufenbarren sowie Malewski am Schwebebalken.
