Katar-WM: SPD-Chef Klingbeil erwartet klare Haltung des Fußballs
SPD-Chef Lars Klingbeil hat im Hinblick auf die umstrittene Weltmeisterschaft in Katar klare Erwartungen an den Deutschen Fußball-Bund (DFB). "Die WM findet statt. Ich finde auch, sie muss mit deutscher Beteiligung stattfinden. Aber sie darf eben nicht im luftleeren Raum stattfinden", sagte er dem SID am Montagabend in Berlin: "Wir müssen auch das Politische, das Soziale und all die Begleitumstände dort thematisieren. Und dies ist das, was ich vom DFB erwarte."
Am Rande der Verleihung der Sepp-Herberger-Awards in der Hauptstadt betonte der Politiker, er sei "dankbar", dass der DFB die Menschenrechtslage in Katar "zunehmend aufgreift". Zuletzt hatten die Menschenrechtsorganisationen Human Rights Watch und Amnesty International vor der Nationalmannschaft Vorträge gehalten. "Das war eine sehr wichtige und ernste Veranstaltung. Ich finde es wichtig, dass man sich mit diesem Thema auseinandersetzt", sagte der neue DFB-Präsident Bernd Neuendorf.
Nach Ansicht der 60-Jährigen könne der Fußball während der WM (21. November bis 18. Dezember) zur Verbesserung der Situation vor Ort beitragen. So sei es wichtig, "diejenigen zu stärken, von denen wir glauben, dass sie für eine Öffnung stehen und für einen liberaleren Kurs", sagte Neuendorf: "Dass man diese Leute in ihren Anliegen unterstützt, ist ein wichtiger Schritt. Sie brauchen diesen Zuspruch. Das ist das, was der Fußball leisten kann im Zuge eines solchen Turniers."
