Boston unterliegt Atlanta: Schröders Chancen immer geringer
Für den deutschen Basketball-Star Dennis Schröder wird die Chance auf eine Play-off-Teilnahme in der nordamerikanischen Profiliga NBA immer geringer. Hauptkonkurrent Atlanta Hawks bezwang innerhalb weniger Tage zum zweiten Mal Liga-Primus Boston Celtics und hat durch das überraschende 123:122 nach Verlängerung bereits sechs Siege mehr als Schröders spielfreie Brooklyn Nets auf dem Konto.
Die Hawks liegen im Osten mit Platz zehn auf dem letzten Rang, der noch für die Teilnahme am Play-in-Turnier reichen würde. Brooklyn folgt in der Tabelle direkt dahinter, beiden Teams bleiben noch neun Hauptrundenspiele. Matchwinner für Atlanta war in der Nacht zu Freitag Dejounte Murray, der alle elf Punkte in der Overtime erzielte und insgesamt mit 44 Zählern einen Karrierebestwert schaffte. Für die Celtics waren 31 Punkte von Jayson Tatum zu wenig.
Mit den Milwaukee Bucks um Giannis Antetokounmpo kassierte auch das zweitbeste Team im Osten eine überraschende Niederlage. Die Bucks unterlagen den New Orleans Pelicans mit 100:107, 35 Punkte und 14 Rebounds des griechischen Superstars reichten nicht. Die Pelicans machten damit einen riesigen Schritt zur direkten Qualifikation für die Play-offs, Zion Williamson mit 28 und CJ MC Collum mit 25 Punkten waren spielentscheidend.
