Eishockey-WM: DEB-Frauen verpassen Rang fünf
Die deutschen Eishockey-Frauen haben bei der WM in den USA den so wichtigen fünften Rang knapp verpasst und damit auch eine große Chance für das kommende Jahr vergeben. Das Team von Bundestrainer Jeff MacLeod verlor am Samstag das umkämpfte Platzierungsspiel gegen die Schweiz mit 2:3 (0:1, 2:1, 0:0, 0:1) nach Verlängerung und beendet das Turnier als Sechster.
Platz fünf hätte schon jetzt die Qualifikation für die Gruppe A bei der WM 2025 in Tschechien bedeutet. Deutschland wäre dann bereits für das Viertelfinale gesetzt gewesen und hätte damit auch den Nicht-Abstieg sicher gehabt. Stattdessen wird das Team nun erneut in Gruppe B starten.
Das deutsche Team geriet im ersten und zweiten Drittel durch Alina Müller (18.) und Lara Stalder (33.) in Rückstand, schaffte aber durch Luisa Welcke (31.) und Emily Nix (39.) jeweils den Ausgleich. In der Verlängerung erspielte sich Deutschland gute Chancen, am Ende sorgte Müller (65.) mit ihrem zweiten Treffer aber für das Ende eines dramatischen Spiels.
Das Turnier bleibt aus deutscher Sicht dennoch ein Erfolg. In der Vorrunde hatte Deutschland erstmals überhaupt alle vier Spiele gewonnen und somit die Gruppe B auf Platz eins abgeschlossen. Im Viertelfinale scheiterte das Team nur knapp an den favorisierten Tschechinnen (0:1) und verpasste damit den ersten Einzug in die Vorschlussrunde seit 2017.
